WEST BATH
A Harpswell man was arrested Sunday night after hitting a utility pole on Fosters Point Road while allegedly under the influence of alcohol, according to the Sagadahoc County Sheriff ’s Department.
The crash was reported at 7:33 p.m. Chief Deputy Brett Strout said Scott Rand, 33, of 167 Dingley Island Road, Harpswell, was driving a 2002 Dodge Stratus when he hit the utility pole on Fosters Point Road. Strout said Rand was not injured in the crash.
Rand was arrested and charged with operating under the influence. He was released on personal recognizance bail.
Damage to the pole caused wires to begin arcing. Central Maine Power responded to the scene and replaced the pole.
Gail Rice, spokeswoman for CMP, said this morning that power was out for about 362 customers from about 7: 36 p.m. to 11:15 p.m.
Deputy Matt Shiers is investigating the incident. Also responding to the crash were West Bath Fire Department, West Bath EMS and Bath Rescue.
