ORONO – Justin Edwards scored 18 points and Mike Allison had a double-double off the bench to help Maine defeat Binghamton 67-59 in men’s basketball on Saturday.

Allison finished with 10 points and 15 rebounds for the Black Bears (9-10, 3-5 America East).

It was UMaine’s second straight win following a five-game losing streak.

Binghamton shot better than Maine from the field, 42.6 percent (23 of 54) to 40.4 percent (23 of 57) but allowed 19 points off 14 turnovers.

Gerald McLemore added 15 points for Maine, which scored 30 points in the paint.

The Black Bears led 31-24 and stretched their lead to as many as 20.

Jimmy Gray scored 24 points and Robert Mansell 15 as Binghamton (0-21, 0-11) remained Division I’s only winless team.

SALVE REGINA 61, UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 51: Salve Regina (11-7, 9-2 CCC) used a 20-2 run early in the second period to take charge in a win over the University of New England (3-15, 3-8) at Newport, R.I.

Isiah Pringle and Ryan Birrell scored a combined 22 points in the second half to lead the Seahawks’ rally.

Marcus Winn led UNE with 13 points.

TUFTS 67, BATES 62: Scott Anderson scored 13 points to pace Tufts University (14-5, 5-2 NESCAC) in a victory over Bates College (10-8, 4-3) at Medford, Mass.

BOWDOIN 67, COLBY 40: Andrew Madlinger drained four 3-point shots and finished with 18 points for Bowdoin (12-5, 2-3) in a rout of Colby (6-11, 1-4) at Brunswick.

John Swords and Max Staiger were also in double figures for Bowdoin with 10 points each.

Eric Beaulieu and Shane Rogers led the Mules with eight points each.

SOUTHERN MAINE 85, WESTERN CONN. 84: Senior guard Chris Pagentine sank two free throws with 2.8 seconds left as the University of Southern Maine (8-10, 2-7 LEC) stunned Western Connecticut State (15-4, 6-3) at Hill Gymnasium in Gorham.

Jeremy Jackson put the Huskies in position to win with a blocked shot. Jackson then pulled in a rebound of a missed free throw that would have given the Colonials a two-point lead. The Huskies had 12 seconds left and Pagentine was fouled while trying to drive to the basket.

The Huskies had an edge at the free-throw line, making 11 of 15 attempts, while sending Western Connecticut to the line just four times, resulting in two points.

Jackson had 25 points.

ST. JOSEPH’S 79, SUFFOLK 55: Chris Petzy put up 17 points for St. Joseph’s College (13-4, 9-2 GNAC) in a win over Suffolk (8-11, 5-7), at Standish.

DEAN 78, SOUTHERN MAINE CC 71: Dan Foster had 15 points, Emmanuel Donalson added 14 and Josh Mackie 13 in a loss for the Seawolves (9-13) at Franklin, Mass.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

MAINE 48, BINGHAMTON 47: Samantha Baranowski scored a career-high 20 points and the Black Bears (6-16, 3-6 America East) used solid defensive play to edge the Bearcats (10-12, 4-5) at Orono.

SALVE REGINA 63, UNE 51: Lindsay Shorey scored a game-high 22 points with seven rebounds as the Seahawks (11-7, 8-3 Commonwealth Coast) topped the Nor’easters (14-4, 9-2) at Newport, R.I.

SOUTHERN MAINE 69, WESTERN CONN. 56: Haley Jordan scored a game-high 23 points as the Huskies (15-4, 7-2 Little East) defeated the Colonials (13-6, 5-4) at Gorham.

ST. JOSEPH’S 73, SUFFOLK 60: Lindsey Moore scored a game-high 22 points and the Monks (13-6, 7-0 GNAC) made 17 of 18 free throws against the Rams (13-6, 6-2) at Standish.

TUFTS 64, BATES 52: Liz Moynihan scored 14 points as the Jumbos (17-3, 6-1 NESCAC) handled the Bobcats (8-11, 2-5) at Medford, Mass.

WOMEN’S HOCKEY

BOWDOIN 3, WILLIAMS 0: The Polar Bears (8-7-3, 6-4 NESCAC) rallied for three goals in the third period for the win over the Ephs (9-9, 5-5) at Brunswick.

Kayte Holtz, Molly Andrews and Chelsea MacNeil scored for Bowdoin.

HOLY CROSS 5, SOUTHERN MAINE 2: The Crusaders (14-1-2, 11-1 ECAC East) scored three special-team goals in the second period in a victory over the Huskies (5-10-4, 5-5-2) at Worcester, Mass.

TRINITY 2, COLBY 0: Lindsey Weiner and Abby Ostrom scored in the third period for the Bantams (10-7, 6-4 NESCAC) against the Mules (4-12-2, 1-10-1) at Hartford, Conn.

ST. MICHAEL’S 3, SOUTHERN MAINE 2: Josh Geary broke a 2-2 tie with 5:31 to play in the second period, and Mike Dizgun kicked out 33 shots as the Purple Knights (5-10-2, 3-8-1) defeated Southern Maine (6-9-14, 4-6-2) in an ECAC East game in South Burlington, Vt.
