GORHAM — On Feb. 19 and Feb. 25, baseball players ages 8-18 will have the opportunity to tune up their skills at the 22nd annual University of Southern Maine Baseball Pitching, Defense and Hitting Clinics.
The clinics allow players to learn proper pitching, defense and hitting techniques from the USM baseball staff and team members.
Coordinated by USM head coach Ed Flaherty, a two-time national champion ( 1991, 1997), and his staff, players will perform drills and receive instruction and correction on form and technique. Defensive stations will include pitching, infield, outfield and catching.
Players will be grouped by age and ability.
Both dates will be broken up into two sessions: pitching and defense from 9 a.m. to noon and hitting from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
The fee for each session is $30, or $50 for both sessions if paid in advance. Preregistration is recommended. The fees are $35 or $60 on the day of the clinic.
Players should bring sneakers to change into and a glove. If available, a helmet and a bat are also encouraged.
For more information, contact Flaherty at 780-5474. Registration materials can also be found at http://southernmainehuskies.com/ fan- Zone/clinics

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
