The ice chips fly as Jeff Day of Ice Designs, out of New Hampshire, puts the finishing touches on a mermaid ice sculpture, one of many he has carved with associate Jeff Landry for the Portland Harbor Hotel Ice Bar.

The Ice Bar is part of the Portland On Ice festival downtown and will be open from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. today. Tickets are $15; $21 with one drink ticket. The event is sold out Friday and Saturday.

This year’s Ice Bar will feature two martini bars, pouring specialty cocktails featuring Smirnoff vodkas Fluffed Marshmallow and Whipped Cream. Shipyard Brewery’s popular beers will also be available at an outdoor Ice Bar.

There will also be a full bar indoors, which will have food and music provided by a DJ.
