NAPLES – The Lake Region High School girls basketball season kept its undefeated record alive on Monday night with a 60-33 beating of Fryeburg Academy.
The win moves the Lakers to 13-0 on the season and the team sits on top of the latest Class B West Heal Point standings. Spruce Mountain, which is not on the Lakers’ schedule this season is in second place with a 12-1 record, 11 points behind the Lakers.
The Lakers had to shake off the Raiders on Monday night, as the two teams ended the first quarter with Lake Region holding on to a 15-10 lead. But the closeness didn’t last as Lake Region went on a 21-9 run in the second quarter to grab a 36-19 lead at the half.
Things got really ugly in the third quarter as the Lake Region defense clamped down on the Raiders, shutting them out by a 13-0 score to put the game away.
Tiana-Jo Carter led the way for the Lakers in the contest, scoring 11 points and pulling down 17 rebounds while blocking three Raider shots for good measure. Abby Craffey added 13 points for the Lakers and teammate Kelsey Winslow contributed 11 points while pulling down 11 boards.
After a game against York on Jan. 26 (played after the Lakes Region Weekly’s deadline), the Lakers will host Falmouth on Jan. 31 at 7 p.m. and then will travel to Greely on Feb. 3.
