ELLSWORTH — The Maine Community Foundation offers nearly 450 scholarships that support students pursuing music, journalism, teaching, horticulture, technology, the art, and other fields. They are available for students attending secondary, post-secondary, and graduate schools, as well as non-traditional programs.
A complete listing of scholarships available for the upcoming school year is now online at the Maine Community Foundation website, www.mainecf.org.
In 2011, the community foundation awarded more than $1.5 million in scholarships to 1,275 Maine students attending schools in the state, across the country and around the world.
“Each scholarship award is a gift of educational opportunity from a Maine Community Foundation donor to present and future generations,” Meredith Jones, Maine Community Foundation president, said in a release.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
