FIGURE SKATING

U.S. CHAMPIONSHIPS: Scarborough High freshman Morgan Sewall finished 11th in the ladies’ novice division at San Jose, Calif.

Sewall, 14, received a score of 64.64 in her free skate for a total of 95.02 in the two-day event.

Karen Chen, 12, of Freemont, Calif., won with a score of 140.17.

HIGH SCHOOLS

CROSS COUNTRY: Matt McClintock of Madison was chosen as Maine’s Gatorade runner of the year.

McClintock won his third consecutive Class C state championship, placed third at the New England championships and qualified for the Foot Locker national championships in San Diego, where he finished 15th.
