RUMFORD — The Bowdoin College Nordic ski team opened its 2012 campaign at the Bates Carnival this weekend hosted at Black Mountain.
The Polar Bears finished 10th overall in the Eastern Intercollegiate Skiing Association competition and placed third among Maine teams in the Broomhall Cup standings.
Spencer Eusden led the way for the team, earning 27th among EISA skiers and fourth among Maine competitors in Friday’s 10K freestyle ( 28: 33.50) to earn All- State honors.
Kaitlynn Miller was 54th to lead Bowdoin in the women’s 5K freestyle on Friday (16:57.00).
In Saturday’s 10K mass start events, Eusden rallied from a pair of early crashes to take 52nd individually ( 29: 29.1). Miller led the women again, this time placing 35th (34:21.7).
Bowdoin is scheduled to return to action this upcoming weekend at Jackson Ski Touring Center in New Hampshire for the University of New Hampshire Carnival.
