BRUNSWICK — Slick, snow-covered roads triggered a four-car crash on Route 1 westbound Saturday afternoon, sending two local residents to Mid Coast Hospital.
A 2004 Ford driven by 72- year-old John Starr of Topsham was headed west in the passing lane just after noon when Starr lost control of his car and hit a 2005 Chrysler driven by Sandra Gerrow, 56, of Phippsburg, Deputy Chief Marc Hagan of the Brunswick Police Department said today.
Gerrow’s car slid off the road, and Starr’s Ford continued to spin, striking the guard rail and sliding across the road into a 1998 Chrysler driven by 48-year-old Kenneth Markee of Boothbay.
The impact of that collision caused Markee’s car to spin out of control and strike a 1999 Subaru driven by Caroline Wilmot of Yarmouth.
A Brunswick rescue crew took Starr and Markee to Mid Coast Hospital — Starr with a non- incapacitating head injury and Markee with a possible neck injury. Both were treated and released, according to a hospital spokesman.
