The Portland Symphony Orchestra resumes its performance season with two guest conductors this week.

At 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Christopher Warren-Green leads the orchestra through a program of music by Jean Sibelius and Anton Dvorak. Warren-Green, who conducts the Charlotte Symphony in North Carolina, also is music director and principal conductor of the London Chamber Orchestra. Through his position in London, he has direct ties to the royal family. He has conducted numerous royal events, including most recently the 2011 wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton.

Violinist Steven Moeckel of the Phoenix Symphony is the featured soloist on Sibelius’ Violin Concerto. Tickets range from $20 to $70 at porttix.com.

A week from today, at 2:30 p.m., Dmitry Sitkovetsky will serve as guest conductor and violinist for a program with music from around the world, including works by Mendelssohn and Rossini. Sitkovetsky not only will lead the orchestra, but also perform the solo violin part in the Suite from The Red Violin, composed by John Corigliano.

Sitkovetsky is music director of the Greensboro Symphony Orchestra. Tickets range from $20 to $58 at porttix.com.

Mad Horse Theatre Company opens the comedy “Becky Shaw” by Obie Award-winning playwright Gina Gionfriddo. Previews are at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and the play opens at 8 p.m. Saturday at Lucid Stage, 29 Baxter Blvd., Portland. It continues through Feb. 14.

Mad Horse company member James Herrera makes his directorial debut with this show, which The New York Times called “a comedy of bad manners.” A woman fixes up her best friend with her husband’s co-worker. The date goes awry, forcing the matchmakers to examine their own relationship.

The cast includes Mad Horse company members Elizabeth Chambers, Janice Gardner, Brent Askari, Burke Brimmer and Tootie Van Reenan. Tickets cost $22, and $20 for students and seniors. Call 899-3993 or visit lucidstage.org.
