BIDDEFORD – Ben Wessel scored 26 points and Scarborough overcame a six-point deficit in the last five minutes to earn a 63-60 win over Biddeford in a Southern Maine Activities Association boys’ basketball game Friday night.
Scarborough (7-5) tied it on back-to-back three-point plays by Wessel and Conor McCann, then took the lead on a Brendan Hall layup.
Bobby Cote scored 30 points for Biddeford (6-6).
SANFORD 63, MASSABESIC 37: Ryan Camire scored 15 points for the Redskins (6-6) who used a 16-0 run in the third quarter to pull away from the visiting Mustangs (1-10).
Sanford trailed 14-9 after one quarter but rallied to take a 27-18 halftime lead.
Casey Nava scored 12 points for Massabesic. Ryan Dodge had 11.
DEERING 48, WESTBROOK 41: John Amabile had 19 points and three steals as the Rams (11-1) beat the Blue Blazes (4-8) at Portland.
Patrick Green added 12 points and five rebounds, and Labson Abwoch finished with 10 points and six rebounds. Thiwat Thiwat grabbed 11 rebounds.
Zachery Bean and Keenan Lowe each scored nine points for Westbrook.
SOUTH PORTLAND 38, GORHAM 37: Ben Burkey had 13 points, Jordan Muller added 10, and the Red Riots (9-3) held off the visiting Rams (1-10).
Carter Bowers scored 10 points for Gorham, which nearly erased a 31-24 deficit in the fourth quarter. South Portland didn’t make a field goal in the last eight minutes.
CHEVERUS 64, WINDHAM 40: Mike Flaherty and Andrew Ferrick finished with 16 points each and Cam Olson added 11 to lead the Stags (9-2) past the Eagles (3-9) at Portland.
Kevin and Dylan Weisser paced Windham with nine points each.
BONNY EAGLE 69, KENNEBUNK 30: Dustin Cole and Cole Libby each had 14 points and six steals to help the Scots (10-2) beat the Rams (3-9) at Standish.
Benjamin Malloy added 15 points and Evan Amell had 13 for Bonny Eagle, which put it away with a 22-1 third-quarter run.
MARSHWOOD 59, NOBLE 46: Brady Innes scored 14 points and Jack Verrill and Daniel Veino each had 10 to help the Hawks (7-5) down the Knights (1-11) at North Berwick.
Verrill and Veino combined for 11 points in the first quarter as Marshwood took an 18-6 lead.
A.J. Baker and Grayson Waterman scored 10 points apiece for Noble.
WELLS 67, FREEPORT 46: Jake Moody scored 22 points to lead the Warriors (8-4) past the Falcons (1-10) at Wells.
Wells outscored the visitors 41-23 in the second half. Moody led the attack with 15 points, and Zach Deshaies scored 10 of his 13 points after halftime.
Dylan Stevens was also in double figures for Wells with 14 points.
Mitch Loeman scored 19 points for the Falcons.
FRYEBURG ACADEMY 49, SACOPEE VALLEY 34: Walker Mallory scored 16 points to pace the Raiders (3-9) to a win over the Hawks (4-7) at Fryeburg.
Bright Amoako added 15 points for Fryeburg, which led 29-13 at halftime and built a 22-point cushion in the third quarter.
Jeff Taylor had 20 points for Sacopee.
OLD ORCHARD BEACH 59, NYA 40: Quincy Grace scored 23 points to lead the Seagulls (5-6) over the Panthers (2-8) at Yarmouth.
Joe Gildard helped the Seagulls with 14 points.
Asad Dahia scored 18 points for NYA.
POLAND 57, LAKE REGION 35: Ricky Bryant scored 18 points to help the Knights (7-5) beat the Lakers (3-9) at Poland.
Logan Nichols added 11 points. Nichols and Nathan Rybeck each scored five points in the third quarter as the Knights used a 16-4 run to open a 22-point lead.
Alexander Hartford had 11 points for Lake Region.
YARMOUTH 81, GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 38: Chris Knaub scored a season-high 22 points for the Clippers (10-2) in a win over the Patriots (2-9) at Yarmouth.
Knaub was 6 for 7 from 3-point range.
The Patriots scored the first three points of the game, but Yarmouth closed out the first quarter with a 25-0 run.
Josh Britten added 18 points for the Clippers, Dave Murphy scored 15 and Adam LaBrie finished with 11.
BRUNSWICK 54, CONY 42: Trent Anderson scored 14 points and Garrett Erb added 12 to lead the Dragons (8-4) to a win over the Rams (4-8) in Augusta.
Zack Lachance led Cony with nine points, and Ben Lucas had eight points and eight rebounds.
WATERVILLE 56, OCEANSIDE 55: Brandon Braley made two free throws with five seconds left to give the Purple Panthers (7-5) a win over the Mariners (8-4) at Waterville.
Shae Davenport finished with 15 points and Isaiah Stone-Patterson added 13 for the Mariners.
J.P. Michaud had 12 points and 10 rebounds for Waterville.
WISCASSET 61, WINTHROP 25: Jordan Jones had 24 points, five assists and four steals to lead the Wolverines (6-5) past the Ramblers (2-9) at Wiscasset.
Travis Padilla and Jason Weatherbee each added seven points for Wiscasset. Padilla also had five rebounds.
