NEW YORK – Bruins defenseman Zdeno Chara will see some familiar faces behind the bench at the NHL All-Star game.
Claude Julien and his Boston staff will handle coaching duties for Chara’s team at the league’s showcase event Jan. 29 in Ottawa. Julien will be joined by Bruins assistants Doug Houda, Doug Jarvis and Geoff Ward.
The NHL also announced that John Tortorella of the Rangers and Todd McLellan of the Sharks will guide the team led by Daniel Alfredsson of the host Senators. Chara and Alfredsson are the All-Star captains and will draft their teams Jan. 26.
JETS: Forward Nik Antropov was fined $2,500 for boarding Buffalo’s T.J. Brennan.
DUCKS: Anaheim signed veteran defenseman Francois Beauchemin to a three-year extension worth $10.5 million.
FRIDAY’S GAMES
HURRICANES 3, CAPITALS 0: Jussi Jokinen scored two goals, Cam Ward made 22 saves for his 18th career shutout and Carolina beat visiting Washington.
Jiri Tlusty added a late goal and Eric Staal had two assists, including an early hustle play that led to Carolina’s eighth short-handed goal of the season.
Tomas Vokoun stopped 30 shots for Washington, which had won four of five and entered 8-0-1 in its last nine against Carolina.
PENGUINS 5, CANADIENS 4: Evgeni Malkin scored in his fifth straight game and had the lone goal in the shootout as Pittsburgh beat visiting Montreal.
Malkin capped a two-goal third-period rally with his 25th of the season with less than 3 minutes remaining in regulation, then beat Peter Budaj in the shootout.
BLACKHAWKS 3, PANTHERS 1: Patrick Kane had a goal and assist as Chicago beat visiting Florida.
LIGHTNING 2, STARS 1: Teddy Purcell scored twice and Mathieu Garon made 27 saves as Tampa Bay won at Dallas.
