PORTLAND (AP) — Portland’s fire chief says he is stepping down after 10 years on the job.
Chief Fred LaMontagne announced Thursday that he will resign in April following a 27- year career with the department, the last decade as its leader.
The 48- year- old LaMontagne did not cite any one reason for his decision, telling the Portland Press Herald that he just wants to explore new career options. He says he has nothing lined up.
He says his career with the department has been rewarding.
City Manager Mark Rees praised LaMontagne.
The city is also seeking a new police chief, planning director and school superintendent.

We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
