BRUNSWICK — The Bowdoin College squash teams swept Wesleyan in a pair of mid-week home matches on Wednesday evening at the Lubin Family Squash Center.
The Polar Bear men, ranked 22nd nationally, upset the 18th-ranked Cardinals in a tight 5-4 decision. The Bowdoin women, ranked 19th, coasted to an 8- 1 win Wesleyan, ranked 20th.
In the men’s match, Bowdoin got 3- 0 wins from Stephan Danyluk (No. 2), Barrett Takesian ( No. 3) and Andrew Sprague (No. 8). The Polar Bears sealed the win with a 3- 1 decision from Maxwell Bearse at No. 9 and a come-from-behind 3-1 victory from Reid Wilson at No. 5.
Despite the final score, the Bowdoin women had its hands full with the Cardinals, as the Polar Bears needed four players to go the distance in five sets.
Bonnie Cao ( No. 8) and Christiana Whitcomb (No. 9) took 3- 0 wins for Bowdoin, while Rachel Barnes (No. 2) and Alden Drake ( No. 3) picked up 3-1 victories. Monica Wlodarczyk (No. 4), Elizabeth Schetman ( No. 5), Michaela Martin (No. 6) and Sara Wlodarczyk (No. 7) all earned hard-fought 3-2 wins to clinch the Bowdoin victory.
