HARPSWELL — An incumbent selectwoman and school board member are the lone candidates who have submitted nomination papers in Harpswell with a week to go before the filing deadline.
According to the town clerk’s office, Selectwoman Elinor Multer and School Administrative District 75 board member Joanne M. Rogers have both turned in nomination papers to appear on the March 10 municipal ballot.
C. Matthew Rich has taken out papers to challenge Multer for a three-year term on the Board of Selectmen, but he had not returned his nomination papers to the town office as of Tuesday afternoon.
For road commissioner — a post held by Bob Venard — Paul A. Standridge has taken out papers but has not yet returned them.
The deadline for filing completed nomination papers to the town office is 4:30 p.m. Jan. 25.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
