
“The visit to (Herring Gut Learning Center) gives us a great insight into the types of programs Harpswell Oceanic Center might be able to offer to the town of Harpswell and surrounding communities,” Harpswell Oceanic Center member Tony Barrett said in a press release.
According to the release, the Port Clyde center works on a model in which seventh and eighth grade students develop a business plan and responsibilities to run the aquaculture facility that produces tilapia and a greenhouse that cultivates lettuce, cilantro and other herbs.
The Port Clyde facility also offers hands-on professional development workshops to teachers and offers work to students during the summer.
