NORTH CHICAGO, Ill. (AP) — The U.S. Navy has identified the recruit who died while in boot camp training at the Great Lakes Naval Station north of Chicago.
Authorities say 19-year-old Christopher Walker of Kittaning, Pa., died Wednesday.
The Naval Service Training Command says Walker died during a standard physical fitness assessment. His death remains under investigation.
Capt. Steven Bethke is the commanding officer of the Recruit Training Command. He says Walker was an outstanding recruit and his prayers go out to his family.
Walker enlisted in November and was scheduled to graduate from boot camp this month.
The naval base is about 30 miles north of Chicago.
