AUGUSTA (AP) — The Baxter State Park Authority has accepted a 140-acre gift from a forest management company to the northern Maine wilderness preserve.
The land has been donated by Huber Resources. A news conference was held afterward on Thursday in the State House to show images and video footage of the land.
Huber Resources’ donation comes several years after Baxter park officials accepted the deed to about 4,000 acres surrounding Katahdin Lake. But that land didn’t include two small parcels that remained privately owned, the larger of which is owned by Huber Resources.
Sherry Huber, representing the fourth generation of the Huber family, and state Conservation Commissioner William Beardsley attended Thursday’s news conference.
