CARRABASSETT VALLEY ( AP) — A 41- year- old skier has died after hitting a tree at Sugarloaf resort in Maine.
Resort management say the man was on a green circle, or “easier” trail, at about 3:45 p.m. on Thursday at the time of the accident. The trail’s condition was described as packed powder. It snowed much of the day.
The skier was taken to the resort’s first aid clinic and died on the way to the hospital.
Management says it appears he was wearing a helmet.
The resort did not release the skier’s name or any other personal information.
General manager John Diller says the entire Sugarloaf community is “tremendously saddened” by the death.
