The Falmouth boys’ hockey team may be getting healthy at just the right time of the season.

Despite the absence of key players from their lineup, the Yachtsmen have won 4 of their last 6 games. But Falmouth Coach Deron Barton expects his team to be at full strength for the first time this season when it hosts St. Dom’s at 8:30 p.m. today at the Family Ice Center in Falmouth.

According to Barton, junior defenseman Jack Pike (separated shoulder), sophomore defenseman Alden Weller (lower body) and sophomore forward Andre Clement (fractured clavicle) will be in the lineup.

“Not having those guys in the lineup kind of put us back a little bit, but we’ve seen some unexpected positive play from some players we didn’t expect, so it’s all balanced out,” Barton said. “We’ve got some sophomores in the lineup and some juniors who didn’t see a lot of time last year, getting some time.”

The players return during a stretch when the Yachtsmen play six of their next eight games at home.

“The kids play well in front of their home fans,” said Barton, in his first season at Falmouth.

The Yachtsmen have already edged defending Class A state champion Thornton Academy, 5-4, and walloped Waterville, 7-0, at home.

“We’ve only played six (home) games, so we’re two or three games behind some of the other teams,” Barton said. “We’re catching up a little bit on game experience. “

Falmouth is scheduled to play three games in five days.

During the first month of the season, the forward line of seniors Mitch Tapley, Cam Bell and Brandon Tuttle spearheaded the offense, but junior Kris Samaris, sophomore Ben Freeman and freshman Isaac Nordstrom also have made contributions.

“We’re pretty close to where I thought we’d be,” Barton said. “Some of the areas we were weaker in at the beginning of the season, we’re now executing a bit better and stronger.”

THE GREELY GIRLS (9-2) beat Brunswick 5-1 last week to establish themselves as the team to beat in the East.

“The girls have been fairly successful so far this season,” said Coach Nate Guerin. “We are continually working to find our groove and get into a comfortable routine.

“Our girls have a lot of talent. We need to stay focused on the big picture.”

THE GIRLS’ GAME of the week will be the only meeting this season between Falmouth (11-0) and defending West champion York (8-1-2) at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Family Ice Center.

TOP GAMES FOR BOYS: Today’s best bet is St. Dominic vs. Falmouth at 8:30 p.m. at Family Ice. On Saturday, it’s Cape Elizabeth at Greely at 3:30 p.m. Next Monday, it’s Marshwood vs. York at 10 a.m. at Dover Ice Arena in Dover, N.H., and Bangor at Falmouth at 1:45 p.m. on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
