BIDDEFORD (AP) — A Biddeford city official says he has been assured that the bankruptcy filing by the company that makes Wonder Bread and Twinkies will not immediately affect the company’s bakery in the city.
Hostess Brands employs about 370 people in Biddeford.
The Texas-based company on Wednesday announced that it has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, which will allow it to reorganize debt.
Daniel Stevenson, Biddeford’s economic development director, tells The Portland Press Herald that Hostess Brands officials told him that there are not expected to be any immediate changes with the local bakery, which is one of the company’s most efficient.
It is the city’s fourth-largest employer.
