A Woolwich driver rearended another vehicle while passing by the scene of a separate accident along Route 1 in Edgecomb on Monday.
According to a report from Lincoln County Sheriff Todd Brackett, Herbert W. Geroux, 76, of Woolwich, was unable to stop his 2009 Volkswagen Beetle in time to avoid rear-ending a 1993 Dodge driven by Cheryl B. Strohmeier, 59, of Damariscotta.
Strohmeier was heading northbound, “proceeding slowly through another accident scene as directed,” according to sheriff ’s reports, when Geroux was unable to stop and struck Strohmeier’s vehicle.
Neither driver was taken to the hospital as a result of the collision, according to the sheriff ’s department report.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
