A 33- year- old Brunswick man is in Cumberland County Jail this morning after police say he punched his mother in the face and then struggled as they tried to arrest him.
James Smith, 33, of River Road, was charged with domestic violence assault and obstructing report of a crime early today at his home.
Officers responded just after 3 a.m., after the victim reported that Smith hit her with a closed fist in the face and then punched her again in the head, Deputy Chief Marc Hagan said.
The woman was not transported to the hospital.
“She tried to call us and he took her phone,” Hagan said. “Then when we arrested him, he spit in the cruiser.”
Smith was unable to post $500 cash bail at the station and was taken to Cumberland County Jail.
