“The thrust of the grants is to assist us in imparting post-secondary educational opportunities for our students,” Lohnes said in a release announcing the awards. “We are pleased that the trustees of the Senter Fund recognized that our grant requests promoted the common good of our sending communities: Brunswick, Regional School Unit 5 (Durham, Freeport and Pownal), and School Administrative District 75 (Bowdoin, Bowdoinham, Harpswell and Topsham).”
One grant aims to fund assistance to parents and students filling out the Federal Financial Aid Form, and subsequent applications for scholarships. To that end, the school hosted its Family Financial Aid Information Night on Dec. 8.
Region 10 Technical High School also will participate in College Goal Sunday on Jan. 29. On that date, sending school guidance counselors and Finance Authority of Maine personnel will help parents and students fill out required financial aid forms.
The second Senter grant provides literature — including copies of the book “Do’s and Don’ts of a Real Job” — for work readiness and job retention.
“It is our mission to open employment doors for our students who have learned valuable technical skills,” Lohnes said in the release.
The Alfred M. Senter Fund annually awards grants to local organizations to help them improve services within the community.
