NEWTON, Mass.- Zach O’Brien had 23 points and seven rebounds to lead the St. Joseph’s College men’s basketball team to a 73-64 win over Lasell College Tuesday night.

Nich Jobin added 17 points, including eight during a 16-2 run that gave the Monks a 23-9 lead with 11:09 left in the first half. Lasell never got closer than six the rest of the way.

 

GORDON 56, UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 46: Alex Carnes scored nine of his 13 points during the second half as the Fighting Scots (5-6, 4-0 CCC) pulled away from a 22-18 halftime lead to beat UNE (0-11, 0-4) in Biddeford.

Jarryd Rossignol scored 10 for UNE.

RHODE ISLAND COLLEGE 73, USM 40: Mason Choice and Avery King combined for 24 points to lead the Anchormen (12-1, 3-1 Little East) past the Huskies (6-7, 0-4) at Providence, R.I.

John Roberts had 15 points for Southern Maine, which trailed 30-16 at the half.

 

(3) NORTH CAROLINA 73, MIAMI 56: Tyler Zeller scored 16 points to help North Carolina (15-2, 2-0 ACC) beat visiting Miami (9-6, 0-2).

 

(4) BAYLOR 75, (18) KANSAS STATE 73: Perry Jones scored 17 points as Baylor (16-0, 3-0 Big 12) held Kansas State (12-2, 1-1) to one basket over the final five minutes to win at Manhattan, Kan.

(6) MICHIGAN ST. 95, IOWA 61: Draymond Green had 22 points and nine rebounds to help Michigan State (15-2, 4-0 Big Ten) beat Iowa (10-8, 2-3) for its 15th straight win.

 

PROVIDENCE 90, (14) LOUISVILLE 59: Bryce Cotton and Kadeem Batts each scored 27 points and Providence (12-6, 1-4 Big East) made Coach Rick Pitino’s night miserable on a day the school honored his 1987 squad, beating the visiting Cardinals (13-4, 1-3).

At halftime, Providence held a ceremony, honoring the 25th anniversary of its team that relied on the 3-point shot during a run to the Final Four. The school did it on a night when Pitino was in town, but there was no mention of him when most of the squad was introduced and brought out to center court.

(19) FLORIDA 70, GEORGIA 48: Bradley Beal broke out of his shooting slump, scoring 17 points and leading host Florida (13-4, 1-1 SEC) over Georgia (9-7, 0-2).

 

(24) SETON HALL 94, DEPAUL 73: Fuquan Edwin scored 24 of his career-high 28 points in the first half and host Seton Hall (15-2, 4-1 Big East) beat DePaul (10-6, 1-3) for its fourth straight win.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

UNE 66, GORDON 47: Kelley Paradis scored 17 points, and Margo Russell had 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Nor’easters (8-3, 3-1 Commonwealth Coast), who led the Fighting Scots (5-6, 0-4) from start to finish at Biddeford.

ST. JOSEPH’S 67, LASELL 29: Megan McDevitt had 17 points and seven rebounds as the Monks (6-5) rolled past the Lasers (0-11) at Newton, Mass.

 

(2) NOTRE DAME 80, (18) GEORGETOWN 60: Skyler Diggins scored 22 points and Notre Dame (16-1, 4-0 Big East) went 28 of 32 from the free-throw line to beat Georgetown (13-4, 2-2) at Washington.

 

(3) UCONN 96, PROVIDENCE 35: Bria Hartley and Tiffany Hayes each scored 19 points as UConn (13-2, 3-1 Big East) routed Providence (9-8, 1-3 Big East) at Hartford, Conn.

(8) RUTGERS 63, PITTSBURGH 39: Khadijah Rushdan scored 14 points and April Sykes added 11 to lead Rutgers (14-2, 3-0 Big East) over host Pittsburgh (8-9, 0-4).

 

RHODE ISLAND COLLEGE 74, USM 50: Cynthia Gaudet scored 18 points, and Rachel Riley had 12 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Anchorwomen (10-2, 4-0 Little East) past the Huskies (10-4, 2-2) at Providence, R.I.

Haley Jordan had 14 points for Southern Maine.

MEN’S HOCKEY

SOUTHERN MAINE 3, COLBY 0: Linemates Brad McGovern and Ben Pearl each had a goal and an assist, and Matt MacDonald had two assists as the Huskies (5-5-2) beat Colby (3-9) at Gorham.

Jamie Osborne added an empty-net goal late in the third period.

Braely Torris stopped 20 shots for Southern Maine.

WOMEN’S HOCKEY

SACRED HEART 1, SOUTHERN MAINE 1: Julia Pearl scored a power-play goal with 12:33 left to pull the Huskies (3-6-2) even with the Pioneers (7-11-1) in a tie at Gorham.

Melissa Robbins scored in the second period for Sacred Heart.

 

SAINT ANSELM 2, BOWDOIN 1: Kaitlin O’Brien’s rebound goal with 2:56 remaining gave Saint Anselm (9-4) a win over the Polar Bears (4-5-2) AT Brunswick.

The Hawks also got a goal from Courtney Winters. Colleen Finnerty scored for Bowdoin.
