BRUNSWICK — Downeast Energy will award scholarships to 14 high school seniors and graduates who are already enrolled full-time at approved postsecondary community colleges in the career and technical programs for heating or building trades. Each scholarship is for $500 per academic year. Four winners live in The Times Record’s readership area. They include Sara Adams, a graduate of Lisbon High School, who is attending University of Maine Farmington; Mark Davis, from Mt. Ararat High School in Topsham, a student at Universal Technical Institute; Jenna Kiely, from Freeport, who is attending University of Maine at Orono; and Margaret Webber, a Mt. Ararat grad and current student at Oklahoma State University. Awards were based on a combination of selection factors including, but not limited to, scholastic merit and participation in extracurricular activities. Delivering good cheer

 
 
LISBON — One of Lisbon Community School’s recently trained junior volunteer’s, Carolyn Shane, above, assisted the Parent-Teacher Organization with its annual Craft Night and Cookie Swap on Dec. 16.

After the event, she volunteered to deliver cookies to the residents at the Lamp Alzheimer’s Facility. Residents and employees of the facility were delighted with the gift of cookies.

The PTO would like to thank everyone who donated cookies and appreciates the volunteer efforts of Carolyn Shane and her mom, Pam, for making the delivery.

Morse group plans MLK Jr. walk

BATH — The Morse High School Student Community Liaison Committee is planning the eighth annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Community Walk on Jan. 16.

This event is a community gathering to honor and remember Martin Luther King Jr., according to a news release. People are invited to meet at the Bath City Hall at 4 p.m. From there, participants will walk across the Sagadahoc Bridge carrying battery-powered candles in honor of King.

After walking across the bridge and back, a brief presentation with refreshments is planned as City Hall will remain open until 6 p.m. for fellowship and conversation.

Students serving up breakfast, lunch cafes

BATH — Culinary Arts classes at Bath Regional Career and Technical Center will begin holding two cafes a week for the public, beginning Tuesday.

Each Tuesday, a breakfast cafe will be open from 9 to 10 a.m., and will include fresh baked items and eggs made to order, according to a release from the school.

Wednesdays will mean the lunch cafe will be open, from noon to 1 p.m. The menu includes a three-course meal and beverage for $7.
