WISCASSET — The Sheepscot Valley Chorus begins rehearsing for its spring concert at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Congregational Church on Route 1, next to Lincoln County Court House.
Concerts will be held March 31 and April 1 in Newcastle.
The major work this spring is the Requiem Mass in C Minor of Luigi Cherubini. Commissioned by Louis XVIII, the Requiem was cited by Schumann as being “without equal in the world,” and was so admired by Beethoven that it was played at his funeral in 1827, according to a Sheepscot Valley Chorus release.
The spring program also include performances by local student music prize winners.
Directed by Linda Blanchard and accompanied by Sean Fleming, both of Damariscotta, the chorus has existed for more than 25 years.
