BRUNSWICK — For the second year in a row, Riley Hewson, 8, of Brunswick, shown here with Molly, one of his family’s rescue dogs, collected money from friends, neighbors and relatives to help provide a local dog rescue with dog and puppy food.

He hand-wrote letters and mailed them or delivered them to practically everyone he knew, according to his mother, Melissa Hewson.

In the letters, he explained all about Beau Buddy Rescue in Bath and what the organization does to help animals. “After the death of our golden a couple years ago, we picked a puppy through Beau Buddy Rescue’s web page, and soon adopted her,” Melissa Hewson wrote in an email to The Times Record.

Now, two years later, and two dogs later (both from Beau Buddy Rescue), Riley felt the need to once again help the rescued dogs who are saved from an untimely death.” At the beginning of December, Riley’s goal was to collect enough money to buy 31 bags of dog food.

He collected more than $400 and was able to purchase 35 bags of food, shown here. Riley, a third-grader at the Harriet Beecher Stowe School in Brunswick, is already talking about collecting more money next year to help fill the bellies of even more pups, according to his mom.
