The sale of Maine Street mainstay, Frosty’s Donuts, is expected to close by the end of January, according to Realtor Shirley Wedell.

Wedell said Monday that the deal would include the storefront and “ Frosty’s” trademark and that the interested buyers would continue to operate the doughnut shop that Robert A. Frost Jr. and his wife, June Frost, opened at the location 45 years ago. June Frost died in July 2011.

Wedell said she would not identify the buyer until deal closes.

She said “ general housekeeping” and small improvements must be made before the shop at 54 Maine St. can once again serve Frosty’s signature twists and other items from the site that for decades bustled with early morning doughnut devotees.

The sale would come after the business spent nearly three years on the market.

Wedell told The Times Record in December that there had been “significant interest” in the property during that time, but that “for one reason or another, the other offers just weren’t right.”

In 2010, Maquoit Market owner Dominic D’Alessio collaborated briefly with June and Robert’s son, John Frost, to make doughnuts under the Frosty’s name in his store.

D’Alessio told The Times Record in December that John Frost no longer works with him but that he plans to continue prepare and sell doughnuts at his store under the name “Frostd’s.”
