PORTLAND – James Kapothanasis scored 13 points Friday night to lead unbeaten Cheverus to a 59-40 victory against Marshwood in a Southern Maine Activities Association schoolboy basketball game.
Mike Flaherty and Shawn Grover added 10 points each for the Stags (6-0).
Cheverus led 18-9 after the first quarter and 31-23 at halftime, then opened the third quarter with a 9-2 run.
Jack Verrill led the Hawks (4-2) with 13 points.
CAMDEN HILLS 64, MARANACOOK 51: Adam Carlsen scored 16 points and Taylor Hall pulled down 10 rebounds to lead Camden Hills (6-0) over Maranacook (3-3) at Rockport.
WATERVILLE 55, MORSE 32: The Purple Panthers (4-3) had four players in double figures against Morse (2-4) at Waterville.
POLAND 73, FRYEBURG ACADEMY 50: Logan Nichols had 16 points and 10 assists to lead the Knights (4-2) over Fryeburg Academy (0-6) at Poland.
The Knights hit four 3-pointers during a 24-7 run in the third quarter, two by Caleb Martin, who finished with 14 points. Jacob Littlefield added 15 points and Nathan Rybeck had 13 for Poland.
SOUTH PORTLAND 80, MASSABESIC 55: Tanner Hyland made nine 3-pointers and finished with 31 points as the Red Riots (5-1) handled the Mustangs (1-5) at South Portland.
Hyland, who also had six assists, hit eight 3s in the second half (four in each quarter) when the Red Riots outscored Massabesic, 48-18.
RICHMOND 52, SEACOAST CHRISTIAN 30: Ben Carver had 15 points and eight rebounds to help the Bobcats (2-3) defeat Seacoast Christian (1-4) at Richmond.
Kade Strout added 10 points for Richmond.
CONY 71, MT. ARARAT 57: Josiah Howard scored 26 points and Walker Cooper added 18 to lead the Rams (2-4) past the Eagles (0-6) at Topsham.
NOKOMIS 66, LINCOLN ACADEMY 55: Ethan Pearl scored 14 points as the Warriors (5-1) beat the Eagles (2-5) at Newport.
MEDOMAK VALLEY 62, MAINE CENTRAL INSTITUTE 25: Isaac Greenrose scored 25 points as the Panthers (6-1) cruised past the Huskies (0-6) at Pittsfield.
SANFORD 55, KENNEBUNK 48: Ryan Camire scored 17 points for Sanford (2-4), which held off a fourth-quarter rally against the Rams (2-4) at Kennebunk.
Alex Shain made the first basket of the fourth to give the Redskins a 43-33 lead, but the Rams answered with a 10-1 run before Sanford pulled away again.
