PORTLAND — The New Church will host a free session of Shape Note Singing on New Year’s Day, from 1 to 4 p.m.
The church is located at 302 Stevens Ave.
This four-part singing tradition, also known as Sacred Harp Singing, is loud, exciting and raises the spirits, according to a news release. “ Begun in early New England, it is enjoying a revival nationwide.”
This is not a performance; everyone is welcome to participate. Tune books may be borrowed.
