PORTLAND — The Mt. Ararat High School girls club hockey team defeated the Scarborough jayvee squad 5- 1 at the Cumberland County Civic Center on Tuesday to improve to 5-3.
Mt. Ararat goalkeeper Ellen Wise played strong, turning aside 11 Scarborough shots.
Scoreless after a period, Mikaila Cloutier and Taylor Pare (assisted by Rachel Schoenberg and Keiley Hetherington) one minute apart gave the Eagles a 2-0 lead.
In the third, Pare scored again for a 3-0 lead. Scarborough answered on a goal by Kaitlin Reynolds, but Hannah Zimmerman (Schoenberg, Maggie Wessel) and Brooke Shea (Wessel) finished the scoring for Mt. Ararat.
The Eagles are slated to host Rockport on Monday at 10: 45 a. m. before facing the Brunswick jayvee squad on Jan. 9 at Sidney J. Watson Arena at 6 p.m.
