Malek Hanover named best at Scarborough

Malek Hanover, the 7-year-old son of Western Hanover, won Scarborough Downs’ Pacer of the Year award.

Malek Hanover won 14 times this season and placed in the top three in 22 of his 27 starts. Malek Hanover’s wins included a 1:53.3 mile, the fourth-fastest mile in the history of the track.

Bo Sowers trains Malek Hanover for the estate of Allison Derrah, formerly of Arnprior, Ontario.

SCOTTISH LEAGUE: Joe Ledley grabbed the second-half winner as Celtic beat Rangers 1-0 to supplant its Glasgow rival at the top of the league.

Ledley met a corner with an emphatic header at the far post in the 52nd minute to secure Celtic’s ninth straight league victory.

BASEBALL

MAJORS: The Yankees said third baseman Alex Rodriguez is totally fine after having special treatment on his right knee and left shoulder in Germany earlier this month.

Rodriguez, 36, had plasma-rich platelet injections following a recommendation from Kobe Bryant of the Lakers. General Manager Brian Cashman said the team gave its permission.

WORLD JUNIORS: Joel Armia had two goals and an assist to lead Finland to a 4-1 victory against the United States in a Pool B preliminary-round game at Edmonton, Alberta.

Finland and the U.S. are both 1-1 in the pool. Canada is 2-0 and the Czech Republic is 1-1.

Mikael Granlund and Mikka Salomaki also scored for Finland. Brandon Saad scored for the U.S.
