EDGECOMB
A Christmas Day crash along Route 1 in Edgecomb involved five cars after a 2005 Kia traveling north spun out of control, hitting a guardrail and swinging back into the center of the road, according to police logs issued Wednesday by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department.
Police records indicate that Samuel Hugh, 43, of Freeport, was driving the vehicle that southbound driver Alice Abbott, 77, of Portland, swerved to avoid in her 1997 Volvo.
In avoiding Hugh’s vehicle, Abbott struck the guardrail. Trever Harvey, 25, of Damariscotta, was driving a 2009 Subaru Legacy behind Abbott in the southbound lane and collided with Hugh’s vehicle, which was stopped near the middle of Route 1.
Another southbound driver, Katheryn Meuse, 20, of Newcastle, swerved to avoid the other vehicles in a 1998 Subaru Impreza, then collided with Sarah Johnston, 40, of Newburyport, Mass., who was heading northbound on Route 1.
Police records show no hospital transports related to the incident, which was reported at 3:28 p.m.
