A trip to the mall on the day after Christmas might be more complicated than it normally would. A water main break that occurred this morning at Maine Mall Road and Western Avenue will present challenges and frustrations for drivers throughout the day.

Motorists should seek alternative routes, or be prepared for delays. “Right now, traffic is not an issue, but we expect obviously with people going out to mall that it will pick up and become an issue as the day goes on,” said South Portland Police Sgt. Todd Barlow.

Crews from Portland Water District are working on the break, and hope to complete the repair project this afternoon. Traffic is down to one lane at the Maine Mall Road and Western Avenue intersection. Jetport Plaza Road is closed.
