Each December as people prepare to turn the calendar page on a new year, it serves as an opportunity to reflect on the past and look ahead to what future changes might be in store.
The newspaper business is no different. Beginning on Jan. 2, this back page space will take on a new look and focus.
WoRD will move from a weekly page to a monthly one, published the second Monday of the month.
WoRD Jr., currently on the inside back cover, will continue weekly and include Zits, Biographic and other youth-related news items.
A new feature, In Focus, will be published on the first, third and fifth Mondays each month. It will showcase some of the best photographs from the Mid-coast and around the world from the previous weeks.
The fourth week will introduce Pulse, a page of news from the intergenerational People Plus Center, “the center that builds community.” Information about programming, Teen Center news and features will be the main focus.
Change can be a good thing, even though it can be difficult. We think those readers who enjoy reading the WoRD section each week will also enjoy In Focus and Pulse.
We welcome comments on the new changes at letters@timesrecord.com.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
You can read more here about our commenting policy and terms of use. More information is also found on our FAQs.
