
The holidays are here and that means holiday tournament and regular- season action for several Mid-coast region squads.
Freeport girls host
The Freeport girls basketball team is scheduled to host a Holiday Round Robin on Friday.
The schedule has Fryeburg/ Monmouth at 11 a.m., followed by Freeport/Spruce Mountain at 12: 30 p. m., Freeport/Monmouth at 2 p.m. and Fryeburg/Spruce Mountain at 3:30 p.m.
Freeport will finish up the day with a game against alumnae at 5 p.m.
The Freeport girls are also competing at the Central Maine Community College on Tuesday, going against Lewiston at 2:30 p.m. and Lisbon at 5:30 p.m., while the boys are competing in a St. Dom’s event on Tuesday. The Falcons meet St. Dom’s at 10:35 a.m. and go against Lisbon at 12:45 p.m.
Brunswick skaters host
The Brunswick girls ice hockey squad is hosting a Christmas Tournament on Tuesday and Wednesday at Sidney J. Watson Arena.
The Tuesday docket has St. Dom’s/Winslow at 9 a.m., followed by Cape Elizabeth/Biddeford at 10: 15 a. m., Winslow/Cape at 11:30 a.m., Biddeford/St. Dom’s at 12:45 p.m., Brunswick/York at 3:15 p.m., Portland/Cheverus at 4:30 p.m., York/Portland at 5: 45 p. m. and Cheverus/ Brunswick at 7 p.m.
Wednesday’s schedule has Brunswick/ Portland at 9 a. m., followed by York/ Cheverus at 10: 15 a. m., St. Dom’s/Cape at 11:30 a.m. and Winslow/Biddeford at 12:45 p.m.
The championship game is set for 2 p.m.
The Brunswick boys basketball team has a tough twoday stretch, beginning with a regular-season game at Bangor on Tuesday (6:30 p.m.), followed bya9a.m.appearance against Gardiner at the Augusta Civic Center the next day as part of the Capital City Classic. The Dragons also play at 6 p.m. on Wednesday at the ACC versus Lawrence.
“We do the Augusta tournament just so we can get on the floor ( site of the Eastern Maine Class A Tournament),” said head coach Todd Hanson.
The boys hockey team is playing in the Waterville Capital City Classic at Colby College. The Dragons take on Waterville at 11 a.m. today in a regular- season clash and then will play at 11 a.m. or 1 p.m. the following day against either Winslow or Spaulding, Vt.
Then comes the big rival game with Mt. Ararat on Thursday (4:15 p.m.).
The girls ice hockey team continues the regular season Thursday at home versus St. Dom’s, while the swim team visits Morse on Friday and the indoor track team has a KVAC meet Thursday at 9:30 a.m.
Richmond
The Richmond boys are off. “We actually got invited to the Capital City Classic (Augusta Civic Center, hosted by Cony Boosters), but we declined,” said head coach Phil Houdlette. “ I usually scrimmage with some former players, but I don’t know if we’re going to do that. We may bring them in and mix and match, and then we have Seacoast Christian on the 30th.”
The Richmond girls are off to Portland on Wednesday for the Portland Expo Christmas Tournament. The Bobcats meet Westbrook at 10 a.m.
Morse
The Morse boys and girls are idle and will pick up the regular season Wednesday with the boys at home versus Belfast and the girls on the road. Two days later, Morse visitsWatervillefora1p.m. girls game, followed by the boys.
The wrestling squad is in the Cony Duals on Tuesday and the Hermon Tournament on Thursday.
Mt. Ararat
The Mt. Ararat basketball boys are off, but host Cony on Friday in regular- season action. The girls will host an alumni game on Tuesday and then visit Cony on Friday in KVAC play.
The wrestling team competes in the Noble Tournament Thursday and Friday, while the swim team visits Cony on Friday and the track team hosts a KVAC meet on Wednesday.
Wiscasset
The Wolverines will be involved in the annual Medomak Valley Holiday Classic today with 16 teams from nine schools competing against out-of-conference opponents.
The schedule of games includes Boothbay girls/ Waterville, 9 a. m.; Boothbay boys/ Mt, View, 10:30 a.m.; Erskine Academy boys/Oceanside, noon; Erskine Academy girls/Oceanside, 1:30 p.m.; Wiscasset girls/Lincoln Academy, 3 p.m.; Wiscasset boys/Lincoln Academy, 4: 30 p. m.; Medomak Valley boys/Messalonskee, 6 p.m.; and Medomak Valley girls/Messalonskee, 7:30 p.m.
Admission to the event is $4 for an adult day pass and $2 for student/senior passes.
Lisbon
The girls will face Freeport on Tuesday (5:30 p.m.) at Central Maine Community College, while the boys will be competing in the St. Dom’s Tournament, playing at 9:30 a.m. and 12:45 p.m.,
In regular-season action, all four teams (jayvee and varsity) are headed to Dirigo on Thursday, while girls basketball is also playing in a St. Dom’s tournament Friday at 9:20 a.m. and 12:20 p.m.
The wrestling squad is expected to compete in the Noble tournament on Thursday and Friday
