Frenchie proudly served his country for 20 plus years in the United States Navy, retiring in 1974 as an E6 Petty Officer, 1st Class; he was a Vietnam Veteran. Frenchie later worked over 20 years at Bath Iron Works and retired as a welder.
One of Frenchies dreams was to own a motor home. With the encouragement of his wife Betty, Frenchie was able to retire early, bought the motor home and traveled about the country.
Frenchie was a longtime member of the American Legion Post 202 in Topsham, Maine. Frenchie enjoyed his retirement; traveling, playing cards, and watching the Boston Red Sox.
Frenchie is survived by his wife Elizabeth “Betty” Provencher of Topsham, Mother Maud Hallowell of Brunswick, all of his children, his grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
There will be a service at Gracelawn in Auburn, Maine at a later date. In lieu of flowers, his family has requested that any donations be made in memory of Frenchie to your local area Cancer Research Center or Alzheimer’s Research Center of your choice would honor him.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
You can read more here about our commenting policy and terms of use. More information is also found on our FAQs.
