FALMOUTH — A multi-vehicle accident early Saturday evening on the Maine Turnpike has shut down the highway’s southbound lane near exit 53.

The accident, which happened around 5 p.m., resulted in minor injuries, according to a dispatcher with Maine State Police.

Around 5:40 p.m., traffic was backed up and police remained at the scene, said the dispatcher.

No other information was immediately available.
