Rescue crews responded to a single-vehicle crash into a utility pole along Route 24 near the Bowdoinham town line this morning, resulting in a power outage.
Topsham Fire Chief Brian Stockdale said a single vehicle slid off the road into a utility pole, snapping it in half and knocking out power to the area. Shortly after 9 a.m., he said Central Maine Power Co. was on scene waiting for a truck to arrive to begin installing a new pole. In the mean time, the road was blocked on the Bowdoinham side of Route 24 and at Foreside Road in Topsham.
No one was injured in the crash, he said.
John Carroll, a CMP spokesperson, said at about 9:30 a.m. that power was initially knocked out for about 1,576 customers but had recently been restored for 500. He had no estimated time of restoration for the remaining customers at the time.
According to local police reports, officers and deputies have responded to various weather-related crashes this morning.
