Mt. Ararat JV girls fall to Skowhegan
TOPSHAM — The Mt. Ararat High School jayvee girls basketball team fell to Skowhegan 44-33 on Tuesday.
The 2-2 Eagles trailed 8-6, 18-13 ad 29-22 at the quarter breaks.
Morgan Baker led the Indians with 16 points.
For Mt. Ararat, Lyndsey Cornelison had 10 points and Allison Melcher seven, while Rebecca Shuman and Lauren Williams played well
At the foul line, Skowhegan was two of seven and Mt. Ararat 11 of 26.
Brunswick JV girls fall to Oxford Hills
BRUNSWICK — The Brunswick High School jayvee girls basketball team fell to Oxford Hills 53-12 on Tuesday.
The Vikings did not score from beyond 10 feet of the basket, but Brunswick struggled throughout the game to challenge Oxford Hills in the low post.
Anna Dimick led the Dragons with six points, to go along with six steals.
Brunswick battled Oxford Hills for the first quarter 8-4, but the Vikings steadily increased their advantage, leading at halftime and 22-8 and 37-10 after three quarters of play.
Brunswick 7th boys remain unbeaten
BRUNSWICK — The Brunswick Junior High seventh grade boys basketball team stayed unbeaten (4-0) behind the overall performance of Caleb Cost in a 47-27 win over Mt. Ararat on Wednesday.
Cost led the Huskies with a double-double (24 points, 16 rebounds). Using a height advantage, the Huskies jumped out to a 26-13 lead at halftime and never looked back. Jaznel Burns, Lincoln Sullivan and Corbin Teal also played standout roles for Brunswick.
Mt. Ararat received strong performances from Jacob Steinman (eight points) and Jacob O’Neal in a losing effort. Cam Cox also had eight points for Mt. Ararat.
Mt. Ararat 8th girls get past Brunswick
TOPSHAM — In a hardfought battle, the Mt. Ararat Middle School eighth-grade girls basketball team beat the Brunswick Junior High 23-20 Wednesday with a buzzer-beater by Sara Lamb sending the game into overtime.
The Dragons were led by Emily Black and Gillian Doehring with six points apiece.
The Eagles were led by Lamb with eight points and a balanced attack by Rachel Eggleston, Bre Hamilton, Kayla Connors, Alyssa Kidd, and Jackie and Katie Sylvester, each with a basket.
Mt. Ararat 7th girls defeat Brunswick
TOPSHAM — In the seventhgrade girls basketball action on Wednesday, Mt. Ararat Middle School beat Brunswick Junior High, 18-12.
It was low scoring because both teams played very well defensively. Nikki Bradstreet and Katelyn Cox had four points each for Mt. Ararat, while Anna Manuel, Kate Guerin, Lauren Labbay, Mikala Dwelley and Karley McCourt were offensive contributors.
Margaret Dickinson had four points for Brunswick and Allie Eck and Brianna Newton added three each, while Brooke Barter contributed as well.
Mt. Ararat 8th boys improve to 4-0
BRUNSWICK — Shy Ulrickson scored 23 points as the Mt. Ararat Middle School eighth-grade boys basketball team defeated rival Brunswick 55-33 on Tuesday.
Alex LaFountain added 12 points for the 4-0 Eagles, while Sean McMullen, Eric Segars and Eli Timberland played well.
Alan Molnar paced Brunswick with 10 points, while Ben Lord chipped in eight.
Mt. Ararat finished nine of 16 from the foul line, while Brunswick was six of 18. The Eagles posted quarter leads of 18-11, 30-21 and 46-25.
