GORHAM – The Gorham boys indoor track team had a solid performance in a meet at USM on Dec. 17, outdistancing Deering, Massabesic and Portland on the way to a win.
Gorham ran off with the top spot at the boys meet, scoring 169 points and Deering was second with 98. Massabesic was third with 49 points and Portland was fourth with 11 points.
On the girls side, Deering secured the top spot with 152 and Gorham was second with 117. Massabesic finished third overall with 103 points. McAuley was a distant fourth behind the Mustangs with 49 points and Portland was fifth with 36.
In addition to the team win, the Gorham boys locked down a number of first place finishes at the meet. The individual winners included: Mitch Rossignol, who won the junior 55-meter dash in 7.22; Austin Bell, who won the junior 200-meter dash in 25.30, just ahead of Rossignol, who was second in 25.90.
Dough Beahm won the junior 400-meter dash for the Rams, crossing the line in 59.01; Jon Gray took the top spot in the junior 800-meter run in 2:16.11; Travis Grant won the junior 55-meter hurdles, finishing in 8.48, and he also won the junior triple jump with a distance of 38-1.5.
Gorham also got top finishes from: Sam Johnson, who was first in the junior shot put with a throw of 37-11; Brandon Cushman, who won the senior 400-meter dash in 55.01; Nathan Bucknell, who took the top spot in the senior 800-meter run with a time of 2:10.88; Cody Fraizer, who won the senior triple jump with a distance of 36-8; Joe DeRoy, who was the winner in the open 600-yard dash with a time of 1:23.06; Jesse Orach, who won the 2-mile run in 10:09.06; Travis Grant, who was the winner in the open 55-meter hurdles in 8.67 and Troy Lambert, who won the open pole vault, clearing the bar at 11 feet.
On the girls side, the Rams’ Darcie Brown led a 1-2 finish in the junior 200-meter dash, crossing the line in 29.34, just ahead of teammate Kristin Benson, who was second in 29.36. Hannah Southard won the junior high jump for the Rams with a top height of 4-6 and she also took the top spot in the junior triple jump with a distance of 30-8.5.
The Gorham girls also got top finishes from: Sophia Swiatek, who won the junior shot put with a distance of 25-6, she also won the open pole vault with a height of 8 feet and Sarah Perkins, who was the winner in the senior 55-meter dash with a time of 7.51.
