TOPSHAM — Chelsea Crawford scored 15 points to lead Mt. Ararat High School girls basketball to a 59-42 Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference win over Skowhegan on Tuesday.

The Eagles improved to 3-1 with quarterly leads of 16-12, 25-21 and 42-31.

Kristi Willey chipped in with 12 points, Leah Hitchcock 10, Mallory Nelson eight and Molly Estes five.

Hitchcock, Nelson and Estes also picked up seven rebounds each and Caitlin LaFountain had five.

Amanda Johnson scored 13 points for the 3-1 Indians.

Mt. Ararat shot 23 of 43 from the floor and 11 of 19 from the line, while the Indians were 13 of 50 from the floor and 10 of 11 from the line.

Mt. Ararat is scheduled to host Brunswick on Thursday.

FREEPORT 44 WELLS 45

The host Warriors rallied from an 11- point deficit in the fourth quarter to come away with a Western Maine Conference victory over Freeport.

“We had the game in our hands, but we gave away 20 points to our eight in the fourth quarter and just couldn’t hold them on defense,” said Freeport coach Jen Chon, whose team dropped to 2-2 and visits York on Thursday at 7 p.m. “Wells scored six 3-pointers on us, which didn’t help throughout the game.”

The Falcons led 10-1 after a quarter, 21- 14 at the half and 36-25 through 24 minutes.

Nina Davenport led Freeport with 20 points, eight rebounds, four steals and three assists. Alex Mitch chipped in eight points and three steals.

Abby Moody and Jeni Wallingford paced Wells (4-1) with 11 points each.

OXFORD HILLS 31 BRUNSWICK 41

The Dragons held the Vikings without a first-half field goal, and Becky Champagne made all six of her free-throw attempts in the fourth quarter as Brunswick improved to 2-2 with a KVAC win.

“Oxford had just six free throws in the first half, with us able to press them and get turnovers,” said Brunswick coach Sam Farrell, whose team is 2-2 and visits rival Mt. Ararat on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. “Oxford got to within seven points in the fourth, but Becky made her free throws.”

Becky Champagne led all scorers with 11 points, while Mel Bryant chipped in eight points and Liz Faulkner seven. Libby Arford pulled down seven rebounds and had three steals, Julia Champagne six caroms and three steals, and Lyse Henshaw dished out three assists. The Dragons finished 19 of 37 from the line, 11 of 20 in the final frame.

Oxford Hills (2-2) was paced by Alex Rowe’s nine points, and the Vikings were 10 of 16 from the charity stripe.

MORSE 37 GARDINER 58

Morse had a tough time off the boards and the Tigers used an 18-3 second-quarter spurt to post a KVAC Class B win on Tuesday.

“ We did not rebound well, only 11 rebounds the entire game,” said head coach Mike Hart. “Gardiner did a nice job handling our pressure. Our inability to execute offensively put us in a rather large hole in the second quarter. We play at home against Leavitt on Thursday.”

Morse (1-2) led 11-8 after one quarter, but fell behind 26-14 at the half and 42-23 after three quarters.

Kerry Cummings and Tori Field led the Shipbuilders with 11 points each and Kate Henrikson had nine.

Katie McAllister led the Tigers with 12 points, while Kylee Granholm had 11 and Liz Kelly nine.

RANGELEY 41 RICHMOND 43

In a battle of East-West Conference unbeatens at Richmond, the Bobcats rallied from an 11- point fourth- quarter deficit to improve to 4-0.

“They stopped making shots in the fourth that they were making in the third,” said Richmond coach Molly Bishop. “We were down 39-28, and went on an 8-0 run. Jamie Plummer was huge with a triple-double.”

Plummer scored 33 points, pulled down 11 rebounds and had 10 steals. Alyssa Pearson added six points, with Brianna Snedeker dishing out five assists, Danica Hurley four, and Noell Acord pulled down six rebounds, including two down the stretch in the fourth quarter.

The teams were tied 12-12 after a quarter and 22-22 at the half before Rangeley outscored the Bobcats 15-6 in the third for a 37-28 lead.

Emily and Chantal Carrier each had 12 points for the 3-1 Lakers, who made four of eight free throws.

Richmond, which hosts Seacoast Christian on Dec. 30, finished five of nine from the line.
