Navy Seaman NATHAN L. McCOTCHEON, son of Christina A. McCotcheon of Milton, Fla., and Trevor C. Williams of Lisbon recently completed U. S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.
During the eight-week program, McCotcheon completed classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety.
The capstone event of boot camp is “ Battle Stations,” which is designed to “galvanize the basic warrior attributes of sacrifice, dedication, teamwork and endurance in each recruit through the practical application of basic Navy skills and the core values of Honor, Courage and Commitment,” a Hometown News Service release states.
McCotcheon is a 2009 graduate of Pace (Fla.) High School.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
