DAMARISCOTTA — River Arts, 170 Main St., will host an evening of music by students from the University of Southern Maine’s Music Department at 7 p.m. Saturday.

In this second of a series of monthly concerts, the students of DaPonte String Quartet’s Dino Liva will perform a variety of classical pieces written for strings and for saxophones.

“ Featured pieces include Beethoven’s Opus 18, No. 1, first two movements, Allegro and the beautiful pulsing Adagio, Bach precludes transcribed for saxophones and a Francaix quartet written for saxophones,” a River Arts release states. “The evening will conclude with the delightful string Quintet in G minor by Mozart. A second viola will round out the strings.”

The concert series is free and open to the public. For information, call 563-1507 or visit www.riverartsme.org.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.

We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
