A 40-year-old Topsham man was taken to Mid Coast Hospital on Thursday afternoon after he was struck by a car while crossing Maine Street in a crosswalk.

Jeffrey Cook, 41, of 21 Summer St., was struck while he crossed Maine Street near the First Parish Church at the intersection of Bath Road, Deputy Chief Marc Hagan of the Brunswick Police Department said today.

One vehicle had stopped to let Cook cross from the east to the west side of Maine Street when a 2005 Subaru driven by Roy Vreeland, 39, of Topsham, passed the first vehicle and struck Cook in the crosswalk, Hagan said.

Cook was taken to Mid Coast Hospital with what rescue workers suspected was at least one broken leg. His condition was not available at press time.

Vreeland was summonsed for passing a vehicle stopped at a crosswalk.
