Topsham police are investigating a Thursday night burglary at Bootleggers, a beverage sales shop at 13 Hamilton Court.
Lt. Christopher Lewis said Topsham police responded to an alarm sounded at 11: 14 p.m. at 13 Hamilton Court.
A police investigation determined that a burglar used a heavy blunt instrument to enter the business through the front glass door. The intruder smashed two glass windows, then entered through the frame, according to Lewis.
The burglar smashed open a cash register and took an undisclosed amount of cash, Lewis said. Police called in a Lisbon Police Department tracking dog but were unsuccessful in locating the suspect.
Due to the time delay between when the alarm was set off and when police arrived, Lewis said it is possible the suspect was able to get into a car, but police couldn’t confirm the perpetrator’s mode of escape.
Detective Mark LaFountain will lead the ongoing investigation, which includes reviewing security video footage today to develop further information and a suspect description.
Police believe a single individual perpetrated the crime. No liquor or other beverages were stolen, Lewis said.
