To the editor:

I find it offensive that Peter Anastos would use this holiday season to voice personal and petty attacks on our Town Council members in a letter to the editor, “Unfair advantage,” which was published Dec. 9.

It speaks volumes that Mr. Anastos, as founder and principal of the Maine Course Hospitality Group, which develops, owns and operates hospitality properties throughout New England, is incapable of taking a more professional approach.

I am aware that Mr. Anastos felt that the tax increment financing awarded to the Inn at Brunswick Station was unfair to his own interests in our town. I am a small business owner, but my model is to compete to win customers, not revile local governments who make rulings that are not in my favor.

In pure speculation, I wonder if Mr. Anastos would decline, or indeed has ever declined, tax increment financing for any of his developments?

Mr. Anastos only belittles himself with public attacks on the people who represent us.
