WISCASSET
The Wiscasset chapter of The Compassionate Friends will host a candle lighting Saturday to in memory of children who have died.
The event, scheduled for 6: 30 p. m. at the Wiscasset Community Center at 242 Gardiner Road, is part of a worldwide event to “remember children who have died at any age from any cause,” according to a press release.
“As candles burn in one time zone, they are then lit in the next, creating a virtual 24-hour wave of light as the observance continues around the world,” the release states.
Last year, more than 550 such services were registered at the organization’s website at compassionatefriends.org.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
