A T- bone collision early Monday near Ames Supply on Route 1 hospitalized two people, including a Woolwich woman who operates the Montsweag Flea Market.

Norma Scopino, 80, was airlifted to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston following treatment at the scene by Wiscasset ambulance personnel. Scopino is in stable condition, according to a press release issued Tuesday by the Lincoln County Sheriff ’s Department.

Wiscasset resident William Cumming, 77, and his wife also were involved in the crash, but neither sustained injuries, according to the release.

According to a sheriff ’s report, Scopino’s 2007 Honda Civic headed southbound as Cumming made a left turn into the northbound lane from the Ames driveway. Scopino tried to avoid Cumming’s 2004 Toyota Camry sedan but the cars collided near the center of the road, sending Scopino’s vehicle into an embankment on the northbound shoulder and spinning Cumming’s car into the southbound shoulder.

The sheriff ’s report indicates that both vehicles are likely a total loss.

Police closed traffic along that section of Route 1 for approximately one and a half hours.

Neither speed nor alcohol are suspected to be causes of the collision, to which the Wiscasset Ambulance, Wiscasset Fire and Rescue, Wiscasset Police and the Lincoln County Sheriff ’s Department responded.
